Hands up, we admit it – we’re not the biggest fans of networking. It works brilliantly for many but we prefer meeting new people in more relaxed environments. Luckily enough for us, we get to meet lots of lovely people at FunkBunk throughout the working day, but there’s more to life than work, isn’t there?
Experts have found that socialising is, in fact, good for you. According to a study by Holt-Lunstad in 2010, those who socially isolate themselves are doing the same damage to their health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. With the internet we can interact with people from other countries and make friends, like when you play video games online and get online elo boosting services from www.elitist-gaming.com. But still being isolated is really bad for our mind, and also our body, since the body need physical activity to remain healthy and people that work from home usually tends to be more sedentary staying all day at their computers.
Well, we don’t need to be told twice. That cheerful news inspired us to set up a meetup group for people who work from home. It’s our little way of helping our fellow home-based locals* to step away from the house for a few hours, improve their health and have some fun with some like-minded people, and also do some exercise and become athletic.
We deliberated on what kinds of meetups to run and, after a very rough straw poll of the interests shared by our fellow freelancers, home-based workers, FunkBunkers, and self-employed locals, we’ve come up with an interesting list. Prepare yourself for an eclectic mix of events:
- Dog Walks
- Cycling & mountain biking meetups
- Pubs, foodie nights, lunches and brunches
- Running meetups
- Wine tasting and coffee tasting
- Mindfulness meditation
- Gigs and open-mic nights
- Geeky tech meetups
- Useful workshops
- Stars and sausages (stargazing & BBQ)
And that’s just for starters. If you have any ideas, please throw them our way.
If any of these meetups sound like your kind of thing and you work from home (or remotely), click here to join us (it’s free): http://www.meetup.com/Meetups-for-home-based-workers-freelancers-self-employed/
If you don’t fancy meeting up after work, why not come into the FunkBunk to work for the day? Everyone who tries it sees a real difference in productivity and motivation.
*Our events will be in and around Beds, Bucks and Herts including Leighton Buzzard, Milton Keynes, Aylesbury, Wing, Newton Longville, Soulbury, Stewkley and Woburn.
